these are the left over years

life reduced, the womb dry.

If I were a vegetable I would be limp

but I am stiffening, from the fingers in

and my opinions would have to be cut out.

 

What once was attraction

is just a wrapper now.

 

But this time can be a bargain, too.

It's good not to have sold out

 

When life is cheap you can try things

you'd never have been brave enough to, before

 

Why stick to recipes? Invent yourself.

This is great! I think I'm at a similar place in life! Your metaphor is strong and relatable and carried through well to the end. I had to read this one several times over, loved it! Do you mind if I print it out and put this one on my fridge? With your username on it, of course!

Another excellent result from this week's IP. With apologies for unoriginality in word choice, this is brilliant and very clever.

'Left over years' can be seen as an 'added extra'.  I remember my mother being stricken down with sudden severe rheumatoid arthritis, and then having partial remission, and how delighted she was at what seemed a gift of time and some energy, being able to travel to see us and do little jobs to help etc. Rhiannon
