'Best friends'

The words used as jokes,
The words at my expense,
The words that cut,
The words that hurt,
Are the ones you throw like daggers.

Someone to fuel,
Someone to laugh,
Someone to impress,
Someone to defend,
When I throw the words back.

The companionship,
The shared commons,
The coincidences,
The ‘mind connection’,
Is where I lack and fall behind.

The friendship,
The trust,
The love of company,
The private jokes,
Are now being removed.
