Eat Your Heirlooms Darling

I liked to get my teeth into a Worcester.
Green and red striped skin parting with
a crunch. Tangy juices filling my mouth
with a unique flavour unmatched today.
My gran liked a good Coxes Orange Pippin.
Never my fave, but I’d grab it now if I found
one. We had them in our garden some big
some small. Round or oval clean or pocked,
they always tasted good with or without
maggot in residence (look out for the hole)
And don’t get me started on the tomato
season. The long wait for the orbs to ripen
and the cheap squashy ones from Jack the
Grocer that mushed down so well to make
Nan’s hide and seek bacon breakfast.
Dinner with Grandad’s just dug spuds and
sliced runner beans plucked from the string
between blood red flowers and deep green
leaves, table graced with a sweet pea posy
