The Cold Dream

She called his name
aloud in her mind
until her dream
could stand the
noise no more.
She saw him in the
distance and
reached out for
him until her
arms became too
heavy to hold.
She fought through
shadows that
seemed to form
in every corner
of her mind
like cobwebs.
They entangled her
and she fought
until her strength
was sapped.
She screamed and
woke to find
him lying beside
her, relieved,
she smiled,
leaned over to
kiss his cheek
But he was cold.
