I am an Island

I walk a path not known to men
That's commonplace and harsh
I conjure for me what now and then
Can bring pride to my heart
But I do walk in deft retort
And raise my chin defiantly
Speaking words that stir out-roar
And people seek the kinder me
I am a state of cold withdrawn
I live inside myself
A den where silence is the core
And plainness rules in stealth
So get away
Run if you can
I am an Island
I’m a stone
Leave me
Allow me who I am
I’m a statue
I am bare bones
I fall in line, not fall in check
I’ll break what you build up
I’m a renegade with a thousand steps
To take before I give up
But I don’t ever, ever shout
I whisper, I don’t preach
You’ll hear what you can’t do without
And learn what you can be –
Just like me, a trail blazer
A star to mystify
A pool of diamonds in the rocks
A glitter in your eye
So come to me
Run if you can
I am an Island
I’m a pearl
Be me
Remember who I am
A statue and a man
