Welcome the Adversary
By Evan Thomas
- 418 reads
Darkness, flashes and laughter
At our heels the enemy
He follows us to a man
The army the heart of one
Welcome the adversary
Driven to fear and cowardly
We fled
Is not our cause noble?
The host close at hand
God's vengeance upon us
Sinners we may well be
Our lust for prosperity
The warmth of wealth
Spent only last eve
As I fled
Blue on red swarm
Cannons blaze the sky
Entrapped in a fortress
Cut off from the mainland
We moan alone high above
Fires range on every side
Our cause all but lost
Freedom dies here or no
I bled
Towers burn on the horizon
Cannons blaze the sky
The only remainder
Of a once mighty cause
Red Coats and Hessians
They come at me now
Rebel or Revolutionary
Call me what you will
My war will never end
I have nowhere else left to go
