I'm Sorry Mom

"But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, then he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel" (Timothy 5:8)
She looks at me with eyes of gold
A burden I can not bear but could not live without
Because Newton's law extends to her hopes
A fact she is not blind to
Yet she tries again in vain
The rise and fall have made me seasick
Still, I can not help but take the ride
Lest she bottoms out and stays that way forever
I know one day all my gold will turn to coal
And this is all my doing
I pray for the day the cycle ends
And I can swim in my riches
But it is my touch that turns my wealth to dread
Like a reversed Midas curse
And the coal is piling up now, as I cling to my precious metal
Like the dragons of old, I guard it viciously and to no avail
Yet still she looks at me with eyes of gold
As she tries again in vain
