One's war
By G.A.Grim
- 603 reads
It seems forever,
Since this war began
They allow so little rest
I can scarcely believe,
That this enemy,
When they first attacked,
Seemed such a small threat
Oh how there was laughter,
In those first days
It was arrogantly believed,
This position was unassailable
That they were but wind,
Against these mighty walls
Such folly is costly,
For no barrier can last forever
The unwearying ocean,
Will not be denied long
Yet please trust,
Hope has not been abandoned,
Our battle still rages
I will ever struggle,
To be the person I am,
And not who the world,
Tells me I should be

This gave me lots of images,
This gave me lots of images, lots of different thoughts. The last four lines seem to take it in a different direction. Particularly liked the ocean image and the lines 'That they were but wind/Against these mighty walls'. The poem is all the more powerful for leaving quite a lot open to interpretation. Really interesting IP.
