These Nights Will Be The Death Of Me
By Geoffrey Byars

These nights will be the death of me,
a night like this indeed.
The nights which others shout with glee,
That night I am deceased.
On a night like this I'll find my grave,
a night like this I know.
On a night while others dance and rave,
such nights with death I'll go.
A night like this shall mark my end,
these nights I have so often.
A night a stranger finds a friend,
my first night in a coffin.
On a night like this I'll buy the farm,
the night which is a curse.
A night to caress a lovers arm,
the night I'm put in a hearse.
These nights will have me breath my last,
a night as this to an urn.
The night a prodigal forgives his past,
That night I'll feed the worms.
Such nights as this my numbers up,
a night of rain and thunder.
The night the homeless fills their cup,
the night I'm six feet under.
So on nights like these
while your dancing with glee,
to a new friends charms,
with your lover in arms,
and forgiveness bestowed,
as your cup overflows.
Remember me please,
on nights such as these.
The night is here now,
So I'll take one last bow.
For tonight's death I will be.
