Dropped Sock

 

Like a dropped sock; left alone to dry,
     ​below the shadow of your washing line
I close my eyes and wonder why ...
I sleep alone tonight

Like a lost book; left alone unread,
​     upon the shelf beyond your reach
I close my eyes and wonder why ...
​I sleep alone tonight

Like an end insight; left alone unseen,
     beneath the stars of your shattered dreams
I close my eyes and wonder why ...
​I sleep alone tonight

Like a forgotten child; left alone to cry,
     engulfed in time without your peace
​I close my eyes and wonder why ..
​I sleep alone tonight.

Thanks Bee.

The voice is of a young child searching for their place at home, after death.  Composed after news of a young pupil passing away, suddenly and without warning, from a school I used to teach at.
