A Heavenly Land

The sea rolls its tongue against the sand,
Cat-licking its way up to the green,
Surely this is a heavenly land?
Swathes of sea colour are slowly fanned,
Turquoise, jade and all in between.
The sea rolls its tongue against the sand.
I am sure I can taste a holy plan,
As I imbibe air both salty and clean,
Surely this is a heavenly land...
The bluebells chime, the sea pinks stand,
In sunlit rows of fuschia they gleam.
The sea rolls its tongue against the sand.
Behind, the mountains throb like glands,
Crowned in gorse, jewelled as a queen.
Surely this is a heavenly land?
In my mind's eye I can hold my father's hand,
On the machair, we can convene as
The sea rolls its tongue against the sand.
Surely, this is a heavenly land.
