as I grow older

getting closer to the ground

those little lost things now

can finally be found

 

Like that ring that I placed 

on your finger that day.

Remember?

You gave it one look 

and you threw it away.

 

Hey! they were real diamonds.

I swear it!

Just very tiny ones.

if you look real close,

and not for very long, of course

a new world beckons

when your closer to the ground

I can scratch her doggie Bo

without bowing down

 

I gave her that dog

for birthday last year.

She said it looked ancient

and gave me a sneer.

 

I told her, twenty ain’t old!

Twenty’s considered a classic

Me? I’m three times a classic!

I mean, how lucky can one girl get?

 

Closer to the the ground

we don’t see eye to eye

since I’m closer to the ground

stand tall on tip toes

and she still looks around

 

I’m down here! 

Dammit!

 

This song has no ending.

It's not very blue.

And the worse that could happen? 

I shrink inside my shoes.

 

It sure would save on funeral expenses.

She can hang me on a shoe rack

with the other old shoes.

I’m sure she’d like that.

And they WAS real diamonds!
