Cat the End

Cat the end, at the end
Faded pale, crocodile eyes
Your voice so sweet now croaked cries
Dusty coat once shimmered sleek
Was years ago you heard me speak
A silent world, you flinch to touch
Don’t talk of me you know too much
When you’re where all cats go at last
May your end be quiet and fast
Know not the join, the mortal seam
Pass smooth into the ever-dream
My precious love my special thing
Before the babes and all they bring
Eighteen years, you’re tired and thin
Mammal to mammal, fur to skin
Never knowing good or bad
Nor strings of loyalty you had
We had each other in our way
Brought texture to each other’s day
You’re just a cat, makes me a fool
All ends that come are sad that’s all
I’ll cry for you but I’ll be fine
Content we shared some earthly time

I'm not a cat-person, but I thought that 'Brought texture to each other’s day' did describe rather well the encouragement that pets bring. Rhiannon

Beautifully written. ' Don't talk of me you know to much' - how poignantly true. I have an old cat so can understand- you get so used to them being there.

This is so lovely and I can completely sympathise with every line. What a lovely and very realistic sentiment to a beloved friend.

Having lost my two beautiful
Having lost my two beautiful old cats a couple of years back -age 21 and 16, I found this very moving in its down to earth appreciation. It's beautiful - brought a lump to my throat reading.

How fleeting these moments
How fleeting these moments are! I loved this. I went through this phase where I rebelled against rhyme, but this just flowed so naturally :)
Beautiful.
