Oh Susannah, O Don't You Cry

Little lump of life
Lying on my lap
Gently rocking
Gently breathing
Slighly wheezy
Soon be sleeping
Please don't cry
Please don't wake
Please don't fuss
Grant us peace.
Smallish smiling elf
Sitting by yourself
Tensely toying
Softly squeeling
Coyly cooing
Almost speaking
Please be well
Please be good
Please be calm
Gift from God.

Simply and attractively
Simply and attractively written. Something many of us can relate to, too, including the asking the babe not to cry etc (I guess the voice is soothing, and even when asleep, words are sometimes heard and begin to be learnt?!), and at the same time maybe mixed with prayer, esp if the child is really ill. Such a beautiful poem / prayer full of meaning. Feelings easily recognised there, Jean. Does she have it framed in her room?

This is so sweet, both of my granddaughters have their own song that I sing to them and those moments when they're warm and snuggly just before sleep are so tender. Perfectly captured Jean.
