leaf and loam
faces in the green,
fading, keen
through tangles,
wrought from blackthorn bound.
leaf and loam,
first, falling
bronze, then moist in the gloam,
as autumn requests
the return of her roots.
folding earthward,
for the whisper
of winter at seed.
frost,
as yet unfurled,
a gnarled dream
waiting
in exquisite slumber.
