lineal

that which we do,

has gone before;

we do it raucous,

yet tender, and

at times, unsure.

sometimes, sheer

and unruffled;

other times, terrified

and tight-clasped,

dissent muffled.

we do it muddied, brutal

or devoted,

above pockets,

of yesterday’s rubble;

liminal, soundless bones.

we, haplessly repeating

human loops,

above listening ground;

our echoes, not new,

jarring ancestral stones.
