Family Vacation

The raindrops were translucent ribbons against her window. They taunted her as they glided freely down the glass and away from the evil twist of fate that trapped a family of seven in a van designed to seat five comfortably. The smell of hours old food from the families last stop added to her anxiety. Helen tried positioning her legs in a different way.
"Get your feet away from me" whined Helen's younger brother.
Helen retorted, "Get over it, Henry. My legs are numb."
The towns continued to meld into cities and back into towns as the van glided down the interstate. Helen repositioned her seat belt. The restraint was taking away the small amount of comfort afforded to her by positive thinking. 'Only seven more hours' she thought.
A deafening screech quickly jolted Helen out her thoughts and into the moment. Time slowed down. Helen felt her heart rate rise to a pace she had never experienced in her 18 years of life. The seat belt made a last attempt at protecting her as it tightened against her body. One thousand shards of glass and a feeling of wetness took Helen into unconsciousness.
"Helen!!" Henry shook his older sister awake.
"Whaa-" Helen watched as her younger brother came into focus.
"Helen, you were screaming in your sleep." Henry seemed annoyed at a disruption from his precious video game.
"Henry, I was having a good dream...Why'd you wake me?" Helen said incredulously.
"You were kicking me...what was it about anyways." He asked.
"Something much better than this."
