I dont have your heart

I asked about your name
And you said it was brought by a crane
“Don’t you mean the stork”, I probed?
“No”, she would crow
“Fertility and rebirth is what the stork will broadcast”
“Yet I was flown with grace and wisdom”
“A babe gently handed her very own vision”
I’m Lost in the painted beauty before me
Her name a treasure map to her heart
And my raft has already been pushed into the tall reeds that occupy her lake
How could I not drift on-toward her
And just like that I have forgotten about myself
The castle I have built for so long, abandoned.
For a crane that walks the lake?
No, for a chance to capture something so great
But does it have a place in my walls
Can she walk amongst my people and call them so
I am afraid I don’t know
The more I learn of her the more unsure I am
So I ask her
Ask her for the right to call her mine
Ask her for the luxury that we simply dine
For one night let me have you on my arm
Saying the things you might not know
For one night let me take you to a grand show
Hoping its enough to put you under my charm
She listens to me till I’m finished
I wait for her answer staring with anguish
“I don’t think what you want can be”
“The house you’ve built just isn’t for me”
“I have my vision to succeed”
“And these wings to spread”
“So if I called your castle home”
“I’m afraid I wouldn’t be a crane”
I’m left unsatisfied as the water swallows me
We exchange goodbyes as I drift back to the end of the lake
Crawling out of the water soaked from my eyes to my toes
My questions have been answered and I only have myself to blame
How could a beautiful bird be caught and be tamed
Yet somehow I feel pleased.
A smile settles on me as I look to her with ease
She was flown with grace and wisdom
A babe gently handed her very own vision
I asked my question and she answered with her soul
How could meeting her not set my heart aglow
I hope to meet her again
So I can appreciate the crane that captured me
