Oh...
Pen lowered, I let out a sigh
which ruffles the edges of the papers
and makes them whisper
haphazard origami dreams
Barely two weeks I have been here
adjusted to this grey-washed view
these stark, lone trees, this concrete square
and all of a sudden
there's you.
Dancing in defiance, alone
under artifical lights
pulled into strangers' circles
we moved with surety, as if it mattered
And you must have seen something in my face
glitter-bruises round such lonely eyes
a little girl on an icy rockface
struggling to find purchase
Because you took my hand, made me believe
the night belonged to us
Films in foreign tongues
and sweet, clumsy kisses
a waterfall of eager talk
as you let me into your world
sunset exploration trips
chasing silver dawn
counting pinprick stars, I fall
into your unrelenting goodness
The amber sun kisses the uppermost leaves
into blushes of ember and gold.
Dancing across the square
they make me feel breathless
Oh...
