Polaroid Blink

Snotty little boys have a charm of their own,
green melancholy reverie of time long flown.
Scabbed knees, torn shorts, hair gel spiked,
fluff balls in his pocket with a worm he liked.
Go Kart built from bits of bed,
stolen from a skip with his best mate, Ted.
Wheels, filched from his baby brother's pram,
cuff 'round the ear from his hard pressed mam.
Scrumping unripe apples from the farmers yard,
crunching treacle toffees that are far too hard.
Socks in the toilet 'cos the basket's missed,
endless additions to his Niklaus list.
Squeal and shriek on Christmas morn,
wide eyed trembling as the wrapping's torn.
Now here he comes with a boy of his own,
green enchanting reverie of time long flown.
