In the half-light of my waking dream
I saw a little girl who came
And sat upon my husband’s knee.
Blonde curly hair –
As of my own – but not known by me.
That I could love her, I am sure, yet -
I do not know her name,
She smiles so sweetly, does not speak.
Is this my child who once was there –
But who I never met?
Or is this a grandchild soon to be?
Things are not always what they seem.

A very good poem Linda. I really like the way you take the reader on your recollection journey but crucially (in my opinion) you don't provide answers in terms of your assuredness of the events. That for me is what lifts this whole piece to a different level. It's a blinder. Well done.

The uncertainty and the vulnerability of the child's identity pack a mean, emotional punch! A strong poem, Linda, that made my eyes salt up.
