I didn't realise about the kookaburra/laughing jackass, so you prompted me googling. Not qs colourful as our kingfisher though? Rhiannon

I like ours - they just get on with quietly kingfishing like kingfishers do. The laugh of a jackass not a nice sound in this poem - 'chuckles' was generous i remember :) Thank you for reading.

It has just struck me that 15 odd years have gone by since *faints*

A laughing cry pierces flesh of pond - perfect. They are funny creatures. Someone sent me a video of one last year from their balcony in Tasmania, laughing away and demanding food. Our kingfishers are much shyer. Glad you found it, lovely haiku string. x

and lovely in pictures but a horrid noise...I think I'll leave kooks be, but our kingfishers are always flitting about the river so, like you said, a new local poem may appear one day, spin past a haaai-ku karate chop bad form haiku string - it was may be here too at abc once or still. good meds to read again. ta!
