A Colourful Yarn

Grandma, who was nifty
with the knitting needles,
didn’t know
what colour to use
for a babygro
for the unborn grandchild
but she knew
that the odds were fifty-fifty.
So she knitted two,
one pink and one blue.
What if you find,
asked Claire, playing
with three toy cars
– one green, one yellow, one black –
that it is a baby of the Third Kind
and comes from the red planet
of Mars?
Don’t be silly, said Tilly,
who had been silent before,
looking pretty in a pink pinafore.
It doesn’t take a genius
to know that it is boys
who come from Mars
while girls hail from Venus.

Children's stories always
Children's stories always need something of humour to amuse the parents that the children won't necessarily understand, or not until it's explained! Rhiannon

Great poem Luigi,
Great poem Luigi,
I smiled at the last bit about the boys coming from Mars and the girls Venus.
I suppose yellow or green is a safe enough colour for either a boy or a girl.
Good one for the I P.

This is really sweet. So
This is really sweet. So light and youthful. A lovely children's poem that adults can crack a smile at too.
