Gardening Club

On Tuesday night
They close the pub;
No point in opening:
It's gardening club.
The usual venue
Is the church hall.
The admission's free,
No charge at all.
When the doors open,
At seven o'clock,
The vicar kindly
lets in the flock.
The first to arrive
Is sweet Cordelia
Who won a prize
For her lobelia.
Then there is Bill,
A bit of a bore,
Who extols the virtue
Of his hellebore.
Dorothy jokes
With her friend Dai:
Gardeners wilt,
But never die.
Nearly everyone
Has something to tell...
This year the roses
Have done so well.
But I cannot talk
Of flowers or seeds
Because my garden
Is full of weeds.
