An Oversight

This morning,
as I comfortably lay
in bed, I heard
on the radio
that today was
National Poetry Day.
I immediately cried
in anguish, asking
Why, Why, Why,
nobody had warned me
that this special date
was nigh?
It was too late;
I wasn't prepared.
I wracked my brain
to come up with
some decent verse:
but all in vain.
I was tempted
to blame the Muse;
claim that her mood
had been perverse.
But knew this excuse
is a blatant lie.
That is why
I shall eat humble pie
and admit I'm lazy.
Of late, I fear,
I can't engage
my brain into gear.

I never knew it was National
I never knew it was National Poetry Day either, so you're not alone Luigi. I think it's great how you put this clever poem together in such a short time. Good on you.

First I heard of it too Luigi
First I heard of it too Luigi, but I think your brain was definitely in gear to present such a lovely poem, so no need for the humble pie, and congratulations on the well earned cherry!
