Autumn
The Harvest Moon will reach peak illumination on Monday, September 20
The Autumn Equinox is on Wednesday 22nd September 2021
Moonlight lunar lamplight of rusty orange hue,
farmers gathering crops late into the night,
Equinox nears, a time of witches and magic,
a gateway between worlds about to unlock.
Pumpkins sliced by knives ground sharp,
jack o’lanterns smile from fired insides,
cold winds blow across Pennsylvania porches,
fluttering leaves float and fall like snow.
A golden riptide of colours awash beaches
of crinkled flotsam, jetsam, leaf piles in woods,
sunsets cast shadows (dancing) as nights draw in,
spiders spin webs, casting spells of captivity.
School halls bursting with the fruits of Harvest,
alms to be given to the needy - old and poor,
laden tables and turkeys, thanksgiving to pilgrims,
families gather once more in gratitude and love.
Auburn and rouge spill across autumn’s palette,
a bee’s buzz slows as dreams of winter sleep nears,
Halloween souls remembered, the Dead wake once more,
All Hallowed and Holy, the sanctity of all Saints.

I really like how you mix
I really like how you mix homely into Hallow -
"farmers gathering crops late into the night,"
"School halls bursting with the fruits of Harvest,"
and the creatures outside, in the wild -
"a bee’s buzz slows as dreams of winter sleep nears,"
"spiders spin webs, casting spells of captivity."
lots of wonderful details. You are making a great poetry almanac with all these dates you write about!

You do autumn full justice. This is an excellent and vibrant poem. I don't think it can be made any more attractive than it so surely is!!!

All Hallow and Holy indeed.
All Hallow and Holy indeed. It does feel like the end of the year, with daylight disappearing. I guess I should be used to it be now.
