Homeward Bound

Twenty years back
Staggering homeward
Several pints down
A session with Kenny
Which was far too many
Whisky flask in my jacket
Thinking I could hack it
My Walkman choices
Drown out the voices,
I listen to ‘A Minor Place’*
A song which I reckon has a maudlin face,
If songs had faces rather than tunes
‘Seek and Destroy’ casts up the runes, *
Screaming guitars as I reach my door
Swearing that I’ll never drink no more.
Once in my flat , the room is spinning,
As midlife for me was beginning!
*‘A Minor Place’ is a song by Bonny Prince Billy, from his album ‘ I See a Darkness ‘and ‘Seek and Destroy’ is by Metallica, from their ‘Kill ‘Em All’ album. I had these recorded on cassettes back in the day, in the days of the Sony Walkman.

I've staggered home a few
I've staggered home a few times myself. Different route. Same road.

Hi Mark,
Hi Mark,
I've still got my sony walkman, though it only plays the radio, cassettes don't work anymore. I've also got the original vinyl of Kill 'Em 'All'. I used to love speed metal with that fast drumming of Lars and Hetfields riffs, along with Kirks. Cliff Burton was so gifted too...it was a sad day when he died.
You brought back some vivid memories of my own with your poem. Thanks.
Jenny.
