Holding hands with some reluctance
You and I aged four or five
Going shopping with our mothers
Hand in hand on Union Street
Infant faces forcing smiles
young feet dragged at Kodak’s clicking
Starting right with T-Bar sandals
On our marks to start our lives
The Human Race was run before us
By grown-ups like our Mums and Dads
As Union Street stretched out before us
We were sure we’d last the pace.
