Someone came calling and she was terrified they’d see her .
“ Hello there ,
I have something that I would like to share .”
She walks away into the corner
where no one can see her .
Being autistic means she has to escape
from a nightmare .
“All I want to do
is to try and show you that I care”
She has disappeared from the world
with her head to the floor .
A window somewhere opens
and someone opens a door ,
A photograph appears before her eyes .
“Look this is me ,
so the next time that you see me
then you’ll know that its me”
She walks away
and leaves the child alone in the corner .
She hides in corners
where Its safe and no one can harm her .

I guess this was written from experience from one point of view or another. I like the speech mixed in. It's simple and effective.

I spotted it because I teach

I spotted it because I teach students with learning difficulties, several of whom are autistic. The need for safety and the attempt to encourage them out of that corner come through clearly in this.
