She Took To The Sea
By Paul McCann
.
The little boat sat there tied to the side of the jetty
and the lady who owned it sat there inside .
She looked at the sea beyond the jetty
and thought about going out there
to confront the unknow tide .
She untied the rope and quickly got back on board
and she blew a kiss from her mouth to the sandy shore .
As the little boat made its way to the sea,
she realised she had never been out this far before .
In her mind she was sure that she could find herself
at home with the sea and what was far from shore .
The night fell and she was alone
as the dark sea crept around her
like a shadow of humanity .
Out there she answered to no one
as she felt wave after wave toss her little boat
all around at sea .
Tomorrow will come and the ocean could swallow her up
and then spit her back out but she didn’t care .
She was happy to be there
as one with the sea
and the open sky above with lots of space to share .
