The Soul Cut -
By Paul McCann
When I go out
I carry my scissors about
So everything I see I don't like I can cut them away .
I sharpen my scissors on the edge of reality and keep them stainless in the pockets of my soul where truth will guide my way .
I snip back the time between you and I for I cannot wait any longer to see the smile on your face and the love in your eye and every day each step of the way all I do is cut back the tears that want to fall because I miss you here every day .
What a wonderful gift are these scissors that you bought for me my love and I will keep them in my pockets until the end of time .
I'll never cut back forever as being with you there is fine .
There is no end to its measure .
The hearts treasure . Its you .
Footnote
This is a structure called the Stepladder that employs syllable count .where the
first line of the poem doubles up and the second doubles to a point in the poem
where the doubling up stops and then begins dividing in half to the end of the
poem .
