Southern Child
By Paul McCann
‘
The rain in the highlands turns to sleet now,
as the mist in the morning kissed the street .
Wow , I can see the people smile .
Think I’ll stick around a while
and see the winter out as a southern child .
From the high range to the city far away
Yeah there’s nobody pushing time today ,’
Things around here move at a slower pace,
Its natures way in an open space.
A welcome change indeed for a southern child .
The highlands have a way to stick around you.
Through the winter and the summer and the autumn too
They lift me up and they pull me through.
Southern Highlands, I can count on you .
If I were the winter wind I’d grieve
For as Spring comes I’d have to leave
the highlands where I feel at home
Never more this year to roam
There’s no change thank God for a Southern child .
The highlands have a way to stick around you
Through the winter and the summer and the autumn too
They lift me up and pull me through
Southern Highlands I can count on you .
