The Staircase To The Moon
By Paul McCann
Standing on the landing of the staircase to the moon ,
swept away the stardust with a little magic broom ,
I climbed the stairs one by one
and knocked upon the door ,
then slid back down the bannister
to the golden sandy shore .
On the staircase to the moon,
you can touch the stars above
and make a call on the telephone
to the person that you love .
Anytime at all , it’s a free call telephone
on the staircase to the moon ,
not so far from home .
I’m up and down the stairs every chance I get
and I make another call ‘
there’s something I forget ,
to knock upon the door
and say hello to the moon.
a thousand miles from anywhere
I’ll be coming home soon .
I never saw the splinters coming down ,
next time I’ll take stairs to the ground .
I wrote your name on the staircase
just the other day
and hope that you will find it there,
if you ever pass that way .
On the staircase to the moon,
you can touch the stars above
and make a call on the telephone
to the person that you love .
Anytime at all , it’s a free call telephone
on the staircase to the moon ,
not so far from home .
