Happiness is Relative

If happiness is relative,

Then I'm relatively happy.

Because there comes a point in one's life

Where things fall into place-

Even if just for a while.

But I have to embrace this new feeling;

Who knows if it will last?

I can't let this opportunity,

This gateway to a new life,

This long-forgotten emotion

Slip away.

If it does,

Only relapse follows.

Reentering the mindset I was so comfortable in

Falling, yet again, into the old habits

The spell that felt impossible to break

Going back to that dark place.

I don't want to be sad all the time

I don't want to cry myself to sleep

I want to be happy

And stay happy

Relatively, anyway

Even if just for a while.
