i ain't gettin' any younger
one cannot reverse the tide
i ain't feelin' any older
life is short, but oh so wide
.
i peeled back all the layers
to reveal the truth inside
i ain't gettin' any younger
but i still enjoy the ride
.
i ain't gettin' better lookin'
lord, my prime was long ago
but as you solve the mysteries
the lines of knowledge grow
.
now you may call them laugh lines
or the footprint of a crow
i ain't gettin' better lookin'
but i don't resent it, though
.
i ain't gettin' any smarter
but i don't repeat mistakes
your lifetime is a journey
and at times you get the breaks
.
but other times, you're helpless
and you must do what it takes
i ain't gettin' any smarter
but i know when knowledge wakes
.
you never will get younger
you will quickly lose your looks
your mind will slowly wither
and erase your mental books
.
but back when you were comely
very young and feeling wise
you never had the knowledge
that you see with ancient eyes
