TIME WILL ALWAYS WIN

now, time has been our master
since the moment we were born
each day it picks off some of us
while some are left to mourn
the mourners soon are mourned themselves
our numbers growing thin
it's no surprise
we must surmise
that time will always win
 
we live inside an hour glass
that shall not be upturned
as soon as you fall through its neck
you're history, we've learned
we're clinging to a grain of sand
your neighbor, to its twin
and side by side 
we both abide
that time will always win
 
there's salmon swimming in a creek
that zip right through the flow
but then adopt the attitude
reversing they should go
but we can't swim like salmon
for we lack the tail and fin
alas, alack
accept the fact
that time will always win
