could i be called a writer
just because i own a pen ?
is it enough to scrawl some junk
and post it now and then ?
.
yes, ink is cheap to purchase
it's at every five and dime
and paper doesn't cost me much
the most is spent on time
.
perhaps my poor ambitiousness
could be there at the core
i sadly shrug and tell myself
i don't mind being poor
.
oh sure, there can be money
if a person writes a book
that everyone will want to buy
so they can have a look
.
or one could write some phony checks
that might work for a while
until the day you found yourself
arrested and on trial
.
or even better, look around
and snatch some rich guy's brat
then you can write a ransom note
that's where the money's at !

aye, the ups and downs of the pen, and then, but we know the score, despite its failings we need to write more.
