Brave Enough

'Get ya masks on'
The men fumble for their masks,
hoping they'll get them on in time.
Praying they will find them in time,
Praying they won't end up like Tom.

They tell them they're safe in the trench.
But that's hard to believe,
When this dead friend lies before him
And the ceiling threatens to cave.

'Up on top' the General screams,
Feigning illness he gets left behind.
That's the night the ceiling caves
And he wishes he'd been braver.
Brave enough to die a soldier.
