He played the game with grace and style
From bunkers that would scare us
But who’ll forget that boyish smile
Of Seve Ballesteros
His eyes lit up the world around
Whenever he was near us
He conjured shots that could astound
From sublime to mysterious
He’s now competing in the stars
Where legends roam the fairway
The first hole goes from Earth to Mars
Then on to Heaven’s Stairway

I don't mind admitting this

I don't mind admitting this brought a tear to my, oldpesky. I first heard the sad news at around 7.30 this morning. He was one of the world's great men, both on and off the golf course. It is heartbreaking, that finally, the battle he has fought, so bravely, for the last three years or so, is finally lost. This, a more than worthy tribute. Many thanks for posting.

I'm really glad I left my comment till later on this
poem, because I have to admit, that I'm not a golfing
fan, I had no idea who this man was, but after reading your poem, I see that he meant a lot to many
people, so yes I too think this is a fitting tribute
to him.
I think you've made a lot of people happy, with this
poem oldpesky.
Thanks for the read.
Jenny.

I didn't know who Seve was

I didn't know who Seve was until my husband explained his magic. So I loved this and will get my husband to read it. I suspect he will like it a lot more than he does my 'miserable' writing! Nice one.

Hello OP, I know who Seve
Hello OP,
I know who Seve Ballesteros was but not much about the man but I thought your poem was wonderful.
The content and style of this piece is something I can only aspire to. I just loved everything about it.
The rhymes were unexpected and the content of the first two stanzas led naturally to a beautiful conclusion in the final verse.
Just loved it
