Rubatosis

Raps against rib cage,
is it knocking to be let in
or let out?
Clock strike, it beats, but
quickens with awareness,
palpitates under scrutiny,
hand to chest to feel it,
so loud! Can you hear it?
This organ, imagine cardinal red
laced and wired with veins and arteries,
a muscular bomb ticking in torso,
pumping from chambers,
bass drumming
a music of blood song
and I am unsure if I want to know
its language of flutters and winces,
or understand its biological imperative
to resiliently persevere,
like a marathon runner,
uncertain of listening
to its internal machinations -
breathe in,
and out,
slowly,
it quietens eventually.

An accurate description of
An accurate description of being in bed at night in the silence and darkness and hearing the pounding of your heartbeat. Sometimes if I lay on my side at night I can hear my heart through my pillow, it's a very strange sensation indeed.
I hope I got what you were trying to convey.
Jenny.
