Petweed - the weed that accumulates around a duck's legs;

A duck that is beholden to you since you dislodged the 

Potamogeton impeding his progress.

Floating, quacking, befriended duck,

I love how his dipping head nudges my hand as I feed him

This reminded me vividly of a duck I used to know, her thing was raw broad beans though, never tried tortellini :0) I loved your poem

I fear that would give my duck a stomach ache (though gluten probs isn't great for him either!)

yes, my Dad grew them, and used to let them get really big, I would have a HUGE  bucket of pods and sit shelling them, and Isadora would scramble onto my lap and GUZZLE through pods. They came out the other end pretty quick, as you suggest. I wondered if she liked them because they felt like big juicy insects? I do hope it wasn't because she thought I was her Mum and it was the right thing to do. Have you known your duck from hatching?
