Sweet talk

She hands me the twist of cloth, filled with sugar. 'Granny Robertson has a sweetie for you, Sally.'
I take the gift, and she hers. We suck between sentences, letting talk spill out in the gaps.
In my latest reincarnation, I do the same for my grandchildren, but with homemade scones.
