An afternoon thought
P K Routray
Bondage
at teen age
at an alien place
with no parents to grace
on his own, left to manage
in an residential college
after getting admitted for a career
aiming at a life to live with cheer
binds two unknown souls
with similar turmoil and goals.
Sweetens this tie further
staying day in day out together
sharing the same table for lunch and dinner
snatching the sweets sent by a friend’s mother
gossiping nonstop with untiring zeal
visiting odd hour shows sharing the bill
opening up what comes up from within
may it be a subject, discourteous or obscene
without reservation and hesitation
a prerogative for friends in life others none.
Hug and hate love and contest then seen
draw laughter after five decade with its live scene.
This best part of life is only left now to cherish
At this fag end of life thus friendship now I relish.
