Defining Happiness
P K Routray
A tooth ache,
love for life it wrecks.
Pain on a nail
makes a life hell.
To poor or rich, sinner or saint
pain can prick at any point.
It may be external or internal,
physical or emotional
giving discomfort to heart and brain
to mitigate it, our self we condition and train.
The intensity of pain varies as per the conditioning
Differ as per the perceptions the human feelings.
Points exposed to ravages of pain are limitless
contrary we feel limited are the sources of happiness.
Hence we commonly conclude
with such pains around to a man happiness may always elude.
But can happiness be not interpreted as avoidance of pain
that inflicts wounds on a person’s heart and brain?
Hence happiness as absence of pain may be its real definition.
If tooth does not ache, nail does not pain one must feel the elation.
Around us we see such pains staring at us in its limitless size.
but avoid we most and the avoidance is happiness that we prize,
Happy always we must be and grateful to the Almighty
as we are not suffering though the sufferings are infinity.
