First rain
P K Routray
It was humid, it was hot,
Hey rain! You came giving us relief a lot.
The animals, birds were crying for water,
Hey rain! To all, your drops were drops of nectar.
We look at your drops as blessings coming from Heaven,
We all on the earth cried and prayed for long throughout the summer, at last God had taken pity to listen.
For us all your drops are like pearls and diamonds,
so beautiful, so soothing but to hold and behold we do not even get seconds.
On the grass your drops do stay dazzling for the longest span,
and also they stay sparkling on the leaves and on the animals longer than their stay with the man.
Do you love more the minute grass, trees and animals than man the superior?
or is it because man in the worst of creatures or as the cause of destruction of the nature?
Or you exemplify His law of inverse proportion,
the less and less is your size, resistance and strength the more is His love and protection.
yes at times we get fed up with you when you bring flood and havoc and do not allow the sunshine to fall on the earth,
as our memory is short and we are ungrateful creatures we get fed up with you accusing you with our wrath.
The black cloud on a sunny sky looks as if a beautiful lady coming in black dress,
lightning as your golden necklace, your fragrance the wind carries with dignity and graces.
The thunder storm before you and during your arrival is just like the accompanying orchestra,
the sound caused by wind interacting with trees and structures acts as extra.
Your droplets show the strength of unity when they become one,
Once unable to penetrate a grass blade they become gigantic to break many a mountain.
In hot summer with hailstorm you bring ice cubes with you,
to make us intoxicated with alcoholic pleasure on your beauty with much ado.
When you depart after enacting your scenes with your artistic mastery,
the rainbow with multicolor profusely plays your glory.
