I am repenting
P K Routray
A flowering Gulmohar tree,
Stood in my garden, forty feet hegh may be,
Spreading its shade all-around,
Not allowing anything to grow below on the ground.
The garden was comparatively small in size,
The tree was too big and to the garden’s décor it was of oversize.
With guilt in heart I cut the tree to pieces,
to grow many seasonal plants as per my choices.
But I had repentance in the corner of my heart,
whether “To cut a big flowering tree” was correct on my part.
After a month I was waiting for a friend to come,
to pick me up and drop me at my home.
It was hot sun over head,
The friend got delayed.
Frantically I searched for shadow of a tree to take shelter,
At last I could find a lean and thin young tree standing near.
I got respite of from the scorching heat,
I thanked the tree with a sigh of relief for the treat.
When I looked at the tree in appreciation,
I found a young gulmohar tree saving me from the sweltering sun.
Though I was repenting about my decision and deed,
The tree was calm giving me rest and relief without any heed.
I am putting this case before readers for a decree.
Have I done anything wrong in cutting the tree?
I cut the tree for other p;ants to grow and survive,
But I am feeling guilty, wait for you for your judgment to arrive.
