The Needy

I saw man in rags; emaciated and craving for food,
I was sure he needed our help in his melancholy mood.
I met a habitual drunkard, who was totally in the red,
I felt certain that the required our help, being laughed at instead.
To correct his nature I thought he needed our pity,
An animal can be in need, so also a plant can be
Worms, insects other animates, even inanimate may be he.
I have but limited resource at my disposal to help each and every entity,
So confused I get as to whose need should get my priority.
A wealthy can be needy; a healthy can also be needy of something
But scient and non-scient can’t claim that they need nothing.
Somebody in wealth may starve for health,
Peace nonviolence may be need of a man with muscular strength.
Meeting the need of one may incite need in others,
Need caused by greed certainly bothers
Greed always creates the need,
Some may be overt, others covert indeed.
Food, cloth and shelter a needy might require,
While trying to help we have to consider threadbare
Thoughts come to my mind “why such is the creation?”
It is not god’s willful illusion?
With the above fact in consideration,
Are we not in a state of vacillation?
Whom to help and whom to help and whom to help first,
Who is not worthy of help, let us not repent at last.
