A New Year Reflection
P K Routray
More than hunger no man can eat.
health will be in peril, if it exceeds a bit.
A whole closet of clothes no one can wear
to one’s dismay the clothes certainly moths will tear.
One bed and one room man needs for rest and shelter
but runs he to own palace after palace in vain to sleep better.
Wears man diamonds, pearls and sapphires to show off,
at his dying brothers and sisters he mercilessly ignores oft.
Wealth gives him health and happiness,
a perverse idea a mundane man possess.
only for greed but not for need, he hankers after
for the needy and poor hardly man has ethics to bother
Hurting Him it must be, to find money our swelling bank accounts,
useless, inert, dead they are as they cannot give medicine an ounce.
Man suffers and dies out of hunger and health
no shelter, no clothe force the have-nots to jaws of death.
His heart must be bleeding, as nothing is being done,
live men in a world where each one is living on his own.
Each one of us is a sinner to smaller or to greater extent,
beg we excuse from Him on the new year eve with our heads ostentatiously bent.
New Year resolution calls on these for a reflection
it will be the best among the prayers if we force our human values towards resurrection.
