Priority and divine duty
P K Routray
A professor of philosophy
raising his students’ curiosity
held a practical demonstration
with water, sand and pebbles of different dimension.
A glass jar was filled with bigger pebble
everyone was sure, the jar was full to level,
Put he, smaller pebbles which still jar could hold
no further space students could behold.
Again he put sand filling the interim spaces
the students were sure nothing can enter even in traces.
But surprised were they, when water was poured in,
to know the axiom their curiosity grew within.
Surprised were they when began the demonstration of the professor
also bewildered were they as to what philosophy the professor was aiming for.
The professor came out as conclusion with startling sermon.
Unnoticed are many lessons in our daily happenings common.
Life has time and space to accommodate many a thing
from pebble big to small, sand to water without overflowing
But they are to be put in order as per size of priority
at the end like water we can put love and mercy.
Pebbles may represent our needs for physical existence
Sand may be need for our security and social presence
Water is our love and service for the society
similar to water we have always space and time for the divine duty.
