A TALE OF A DEAD BODY
P K Routray
Edited by P K Routray
I am a dead body,
Amidst lamentation and grief I am lying still and steady.
Consciousness deserted me a few moments back,
A person with so much energy fell motionless without that spark,
My skin cannot sense and ear cannot hear,
Mouth cannot open and eyes hide under cover,
My hands cannot work,
Neither my legs can walk,
After a while I will be a part of earth and fire,
Along with ether, water and air.
Before a while I was a king commanding a hundred or more,
Now I am at mercy of those to me did once surrender,
My wife was sharing the bed with me all these years
Now she cannot stay alone with me for a moment as she fears,
If the life energy comes back, I shall be a ghost,
My kith and kin will run away leaving me alone almost,
My body was healthy and limbs were strong
But all is gone, as if to me they do not belong.
My weight has increased and volume grown after life’s departure
What is the weight and volume of that unknown creature?
I was a king, I was a monarch,
But alas everybody has forgotten me without the spark,
A king and a commoner, a rich and poor,
All will come to this stage, it is sure.
But a man fights and hoards for his greed,
One day everybody will be dead then what is the need?
If burial is delayed, I will smell,
Once who appreciated my handsome figure will see me as if I am in hell.
Mind intellect and ego have left me without sympathy showing any,
Forgetting how hard I toiled to keep them happy despite obstacles many,
I am HIS unique art and will never again be seen,
Hence for my preservation, I am keen.
Do not be afraid of soul to whom you bow,
It is a mystery,, you don’t know “where this will go ? “
You have seen me and seen my service,
Treat me in a way to give me justice.
Do not throw me where I shall rot,
Will you not feel the pain when I am burnt?
Science and philosophy have attained very high pedestal.
Can you not treat me to remain immortal?
“Life energy and consciousness are part of God,” as some say,
But I was once you that nobody can deny.
I shall feel amused,
If my limbs are used,
My eyes can see for some body,
My ears can give hearing aid to the needy
If my hands and legs are put to use again
I shall feel happy and contented shall I remain.
If my whole body can be used for benefit of mankind
I pray and advise you all to use me, so that divinity in me I can find.
